You need to create a MySql database and databse user from the xampp page. Then put your WordPress installation files in a new subdirectory in the /htdocs/ directory. You can then access it from the url http://localhost/wordpress-subdir and do the install from there. P.s. its a basic start but I think you can get the job done! I am wondering, can I download Wordpress and play with it before I continue on- I'd like to get a handle on things before they are live.
