If you want to use WordPress as a Content Management System that makes your site look like a static site, you have to set some of the standard general options a little differently…
First, build your homepage and create a page to hold your blogposts.
Your home page is just a normal page that you create and write the information that you want to display.
The blog page, however, is different!
Create a page, then set a page title… that's it.
Don't write anything in this Page! Leave it blank!
Publish the page, point the “post page” option to that page, and start blogging!
One of the settings you need to change is the option to use a static homepage.
You can find this setting in your Admin Panel under Options —-> Reading.
Choose the appropriate pages from the dropdown list.
